Course Descriptions

We proudly offer American Sign Language courses (ASL 1, ASL 2, and ASL 3) for a variety of students interested in learning this amazing language.  Each level of ASL offered is equivalent to one academic year of curriculum.  We have three full years of ASL coursework.

Students who enroll in our program include high school students, college students, and adult learners.   We also have some 8th grade students enrolling to get a jump start on their high school world language requirements. At this time, we don’t have ASL courses designed for students younger than late middle school.

You can take our ASL classes for high school credit, or college credit/dual creditSome adult learners don’t need a grade or formal credit and just want to learn ASL, and we have a course option for them too.  See below for a description of our courses options.

High School ASL Course Description

Courses offered: ASL 1, ASL 2, ASL 3.

Who is this class for? Primarily students grades 8-12, and some adult learners.  Younger students can enroll with the understanding this is a high school level course.

Why do they enroll?  Students enrolling in these courses need a structured, comprehensive course.  High school students need this level of quality and structure so the course can count towards their 2-3 years of high school world language credit requirements.  Adult learners enrolling are interested in the quality and rigor because they’re serious about developing their ASL skills with feedback, graded assessments, and practice conversations.

What is the course structure?  We have a guided path, and self-paced option.  You can learn more about the course structure viewing our syllabi, and student experience.  To learn more about the course credit options click here.

Notes and considerations about college credit/dual credit classes:

1) Students enrolling between May 1, 2025 and August 26, 2025 have the choice between Term A and Term B.

2) Coursework must be completed by the course’s official end date. No extensions or exceptions are allowed.

3) Students are allowed and encouraged to enroll early, prior to the official course start date, during the enrollment window. Starting coursework before the official start date is advantageous to help ensure students finish by the official end date.

4) Formal college/dual credit is issued within two weeks of the official end date (no sooner) even if students finish coursework early.
